Important reference for any serious Conrad collector. One of a few more than 501 copies printed - the limitation calls for 501, of which 425 were for sale - this example numbered 507 - typically extras would be printed to ensure the full edition; then destroyed or otherwise dispersed by the publisher. Stout hardcover, full blue cloth, bevelled boards, front cover medallion, paper spine label (an extra label is tipped in at the rear, should you wish to refresh). Shows some wear, corners rubbed & frayed; spine and parts of covers tanned & mottled, minor stains; endsheets lightly tanned/smudged. Text clean; xvi, [450] pages + colophon; drawings, b/w photos, facsimiles. Size: 8" by 10½".

Large, thick octavo (26.5cm.); publisher's blue cloth, white embossed paper medallion inlay to upper cover, printed paper spine label (duplicate bound in rear), top edge gilt, housed in black cloth slipcase with green and gilt printed spine label; xvi,448pp.; color portrait frontispiece, fourteen leaves of plates, numerous facsimiles throughout text. Boards gently rubbed at corners and spine ends, spine cloth and label rather toned, slipcase rubbed with some brief splitting and exposure to margins, else a Very Good or better, mostly unopened and internally fine copy. Lavishly produced catalog issued just five years following the death of Joseph Conrad, in August, 1924. Quite uncommon with the original slipcase.

John Cowper Powys, in his article on Chance refers to Thomas J. Wise and the notorious copies of Chance with a 1913 inserted title page. Loosely inserted in this copy is a photographic postcard of Conrad and his wife.
