Hardcover, 256 pages, 300x240mm. Illustrated. ENGLISH ISBN 9789401452366. Martin Margiela's pioneering and timeless designs made for the luxury house of Hermes between 1997 and 2003 are the stars of this book, highlighting this period in the iconic and enigmatic Belgian designer's career. The match between Hermes, the epitome of French luxury, and Maison Martin Margiela's deconstruction generated an earthquake in the fashion landscape that is still being felt to this day. Innovations in tailoring, technique and materials, as well as a new vision of fashion with an emphasis on comfort, timelessness and tactility created clothing whose primary aim is to please the wearer, not to impress the viewer. An image of women was also introduced that was no longer obsessed with youth but left room for women of different ages, thus generating an alternative vision of beauty. This key period between 20th- and 21st-century fashion is evoked through interviews with Margiela's closest collaborators, more extensive essays by Rebecca Arnold, Kaat Debo and Sarah Mower, and a foreword by Suzy Menkes. Never-before-published material from the Maison Martin Margiela archives, numerous striking and exquisitely refined images from Le Monde d'Hermes, as well as new photographic material tell the story of Margiela's supreme wardrobe for Hermes. 0 g.

Gebonden, Hardcover 144 pages, illustrated, 29 x 24,7 cm, Dutch/English. First edition. Fine! ISBN 9789492677655. ***--- The young Belgian artist Ben Sledsens (°1991) has only just started a career in the visual arts, but he is already being embraced by the art world. On his large canvases he translates the classical genres of painting - the portrait, the still life, the interior, the landscape - into the visual language of his own rich universe. He cuts up everyday life and bends the experiences to his will. The result seems to be snapshots of the ordinary, which always feels special and poetic. The influence of great masters such as Matisse, Rousseau and Bruegel is not far away in his small utopias. Inspired by nature, Sledsens' works arise organically. No rigid lines or preconceived schemes, but a naturally flowing reflection of his thoughts of the moment. The simplicity of his subjects makes the images very open to interpretation. The viewer himself completes the narrative, which can still go in any direction. Sledsens' canvases are literally big enough to step into and invite you to disappear in your mind. Sledsens' works are always subtly connected, for example through recurring objects. In the completion of one work already lies the germ of another. In this way, his early oeuvre forms a large story, as it were. This book is published on the occasion of Ben Sledsens' second solo exhibition at Tim Van Laere Gallery, October 2018. 0 g.
