First edition. 8vo; 204pp; navy cloth over board decorated in color with roses and stamped gilt lettering on front and spine; ownership in neat ink on half-title; untrimmed fore-edge; b&w portrait illustration and facsimile signature on frontispiece with tissue guard + 80 additional numbered and titled color tinted half-tone plates; light scuffing to corners and edges, lightly scattered foxing; very good. Laid in are two advertisements for "The Charm Series of Ideal Gift Books" and one for "What to See in England by Gordon Home.". A lovely copy of the works of Helen Allingham (1848-1926) a British artist known for painting scenes of England. In her soft impressionistic style of painting, she often included gardens and children in everyday life activities. She worked as an illustrator of children's and adult books, as well as periodicals. This book was published during her lifetime and the List of Illustrations includes the owners of her original works.
