Wraps. Condición: Very good. Small 4to. Publisher's wraps. Hand-pressed paper. 94 pp. Interior is excellent, clean, and unmarked. Wraps are poor and quite fragile, with numerous chips and detached rear cover. 1891 owner's mark on front free endpaper. This is a limited printing in original wraps of the journals of Capt. Heart, credited with leading the first U.S. military expedition into the West in 1785. Heart was a keen observer and a well-educated man of letters, and this account would have been among the first reports of what lay beyond the Western border, more than a decade before Lewis and Clark's expedition. From a limited printing of 150 copies, though this copy is not numbered. (Howes H379).
