Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. 246 pages. Octavo (8" x 5 1/4") bound in original publisher's quarter grey cloth with black lettering to spine over green boards with "Inner Sanctum" black pictorials to cover in original pictorial jacket. First edition. Murder at the Flea Club is the seventh Matthew Head mystery novel in fourteen years. In this he has chosen the perfect background: Paris. More specifically, he has perpetrated his violence in a night club. Here comes the most sophisticated citizens of the world, and also the most innocent. Here may be found the headhearted chanteuse, stinging of romance but single-mindedly devoted to business; the American millionairess in search of an exciting fifth husband; the gigolo ruthlessly sell his wares; and the gaping tourists who love it all and understand very little of what goes on beneath the glittering surface. When murder happens at the Flea Club, a most unsuitable element is added in the person of Dr Mary Finney, the rough-textured medical missionary and amateur detective. Her normal sphere is Africa, but she happens to be in Paris receiving medals for her medical work and she is much admired by the Sûreté for earlier cases. She wades into the Flea Club with characteristic energy and intelligence. The result is a murder novel that charms and diverts. Condition: Corners bumped, spine heal with small split. Jacket price clipped, corners and spine ends chipped, fold over edges and hinges rubbed, back stained and lightly damaged else a very good copy in a good to very good jacket.

Pages are age toned, light wear else about fine in ldust jacket, ightly chipped at head and foot, small piece out at rear and soiled at rear , not price clipped ($2.75 price is still intact) Dr. Mary Finney in Paris. Catoluge Of Crime #1112. Matthew Head is the pseudonym of John Edwin Canaday (1907-1985), an art critic and writer. Canaday was a New York Times art critic for seventeen years and later in life he wrote restaurant reviews for the Times. Paris at the height of its post-War chic is a far cry from the African backwaters that Hoop Taliaferro has been calling home. But with his American charm and American dollars, he fits in anywhere. He especially fits in at the Flea Club, a naughty nightclub for people who have pretty tame ideas of naughty. The real draw is Nicole, a third-rate chanteuse singing sad songs for the bored expats holding up the bar. When someone silences the music, it falls to Hoop to put things right. Sleuthing s not really Hoop s line. He runs more to clever quips and nicely ironed khakis. But he is saved, once again, by the timely arrival of the redoubtable Dr. Mary Finney. Stomping through the City of Light in her sensible shoes, Mary is everything Nicole wasn t -- including one step ahead of her killer. Book.
