20.5 x 13.5cms, c 2400pp in toto, b/w iillustrations with photogravure plates from old prints, maps, charts etc as well as Derrick's drawings and line decorations. 8 very good volumes with fresh aqua cloth boards together with very good to good+ dustwrappers (all have acid free tape repairs, and 2 volumes have chipped spine wrappers). This is a heavy set, so expect extra freight costs. Mansfield presents this work as 'our English epic. It is a great and noble poem, which commends the sailors of our nation, with fit humility and truth for their great courage and singular activity. [so that] coming generations might imitate the high heart and manly resolution of those who tried the fortune of the sea, under such hard conditions, for the advancement of their country's honour'. Scarce with dustwrappers.
