Hardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Small octavo. Pp. [viii]124. Edited, with notes, by Robert Bridges, Poet Laureate. With two tissue-guarded portraits, and a double page of manuscript facsimile. Hopkins' depressions, his humility and piety (he was a Jesuit priest) and his social isolation prevented him from publishing during his lifetime, but 30 years after his death his friend Robert Bridges published the first collection of his poems. Bound in the original linen-backed pale blue boards, torn along the outer hinges, with wear and light soil to the boards; spine label worn off. Three owners entered lightly in pencil to ffep; faint foxing to a few pages; pencilled notes on pp. 62-3 surround poem no. 40, "Carrion Comfort." A good copy.
