In 1973 and 1974, from a meeting held every Saturday morning at the Polo Duarte Bookstore, Papeles emerged, a two-page tabloid publication dedicated to literature. The publication of the twelve issues of the tabloid was possible thanks to the support of Dr. Ramón Nájera, executive of the Grolier publishing house, who offered to print runs of 20,000 copies per month. Of the monthly print run, the publisher delivered a thousand or two thousand forms to the director of the sheet, while the rest was distributed free of charge to its clients. The Editorial Board was made up of Otaola, Francisco Cervantes and Eduardo Mejía. In a short note entitled "Entrance", Otaola writes about the purposes of the magazine: "Diversity. The motley feature. A certain mural packaging, a certain festive and serious tone, without inclination to solemnity." The publication included texts by "new authors, accomplished authors, and authors who border on celebrity: angelic and demonic, not to mention the naive, the absurd, the schizophrenic." Humor and play were characteristic features of the sheet. The constant search not only in terms of the creation of literary texts stands out, but also in relation to the formation of the text and the organization of the typographic. The front page includes texts by various authors, written expressly for Papeles or taken from books already published. The texts have an apparently haphazard arrangement. There is no pattern to follow in the formation of the flat. Circular poem, almost always written by Renán, frames the texts. There are also original contributions, handwritten or typewritten. Illustrations related to an author or subject covered in the texts are included on the back of the sheet. Guillermo Fernández, Ricardo Garibay, Francisco Hernández, Álvaro Mutis, Gabriel Zaid, Juan Manuel Torres, Ernesto Mejía Sánchez, Ángeles Mastretta published in Papers. There are also fragments of texts and phrases by Ramón Gómez de la Serna, Efrén Hernández, Keats, Camilo José Cela, Macedonio Fernández, Julio Cortázar, Tito Monterroso, among others. CodMk.
