The American publisher, F. A. Stokes Co. , in gilt to the lower spine. With forty-one of Rackham's fantastical illustrations in black & white. This was the first book with Rackham named on the title page and the first to feature his wonderful, fantasy style of illustration for which he is so well known. With fairly minor wear to the spine ends, minor bumps to the lower corners and moderate bumps to the upper corners. Front hinge is just slightly starting. There is a small stain to the upper corner of the last few leaves and also to the same area of the rear pastedown. The interior is otherwise quite clean. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 188 pages.

1st Thus. 14.5 x 20.7 cm green cloth with gilt stamped decoration and titles to the front and spine. Top edge gilt other edges uncut xii 188pp with 17 full page black and white illustrations and red and black decorative title page plus numerous black and white illustrations within the text. A lovely copy with just a hint of rubbing to the spine tips and corners. Internally clean and bright with just a light pencil note from a previous owner on the front pastedown and a touch of toning to the uncut edges. A lovely copy of the first book in which Rackham was named as the Illustrator and where he was able to use his original fantastical illustrations. Condición: very good. 1st American Edition. 188pp. Octavo. Green cloth boards with gold gilt text and decorations stamped to front and spine. Gilt to top edge; all other edges untrimmed. Corners a bit bumped and some fading to spine. All 17 full page black and white plates present; numerous other illustrations throughout the text. Binding tight. Overall, a very nice, clean copy. This wonderful little book is an early example of Rackham's fantastical illustrations and is one of the first works where Rackham was the sole illustrator. Narrative, interspersed with poems and songs, corresponds wonderfully with Rackham's imaginative drawings. A scarce, beautiful book.
