Very well-kept copy of this charming story of a boy who wanted to (and later became) the palace artist for the Japanese emperor, inspired by the legends of the early life of the artist Hokusai. Illustrated in black and white plus red, with red endpapers streaked with white, imitating brush-strokes. Red cloth printed in white, unpaginated (about fifty pages), printed dustjacket. Book looks and feels new, with no wear, firm binding, clean pages free from names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is priceclipped and has a small chip at the lower spine edge (about 1/4") but no other wear. Very clean copy. First US Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
