Librería: The Bark of the Beech Tree, Depoe Bay, OR, Estados Unidos de America
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Charles Crombie Ilustrador. First edition thus. Thackeray's long, satirical novel presented here with new illustrations by Charles Crombie. Sixteen color plates in all. This illustrated edition was also published by Dodd, Mead as a leather-bound version in two volumes, and by Dent, same year, in the U.K. This copy is very good, slightly worn on spine ends, spine panel a little dulled, and the color pastedown looks a bit faded. The title page has a small, wrinkled, dark brown stain which, getting more and more faint, bleeds through to page 19.

Hardcover. Condición: VG. No Jacket. Charles Crombie Ilustrador. Second. Piracy, from the freebooters who plagued the Spanish Main and terrorised shipping in the Caribbean and elsewhere to the quelling of pirates on the Barbary Coast in the mid-1800s, provides the content. There are 15 chapters and each deals with a different maritime rogue. All the familiar names --- Morgan, Avery, Teach and Kidd --- are there along with some lesser known, but no less evil characters. Much of the author's research was from old books and records, often in the words of the actual pirates. First published 1929 with this revised edition 1953. 240 pages, eight full page half tone plates by Charles Crombie, two maps, few intext ship drawings, list of sea-going craft of the pirate era at front. Blue hard covers with white spine titles VG with small fade marks spine base, ink name top FFEP which has sprinkle foxing, text block otherwise excellent, tight and clean.
