Extracted from Celebrities of the Army, edited by Commander C.N. Robinson, R.N., and published in fortnightly sixpenny parts, in London, by George Newnes, circa 1900. The page measures 37 x 27.5 cm, and the image area (not including the caption), measures about 25 x 19 cm. A brief career and character sketch of the subject appears on the reverse of the portrait. One leaf only, folio.

New Edition, hardcover in red cloth with gilt titling to the spine, ex-library with a stamp indicating acquisition in 1923, along with several other typical internal markings, and a poorly covered call number on the spine. In addition to the library markings, the book has a mild skew to the binding with a few thin cracks in the text block, moderate bumps with the cloth starting to fray at the spine ends and cover corners, slight sunning to the spine, and some foxing with a few small spots of soiling to the edges of the text block. Otherwise, this is an overall solid, Good only copy.

A journey from Peking to Burma. His confidential report earned him the Macgregor Medal awarded to official travellers in Asia whose reports are not published.
