Good. - Octavo, softcover bound in printed cream wraps titled in red & black with a vignette in brown on the front cover. The covers are soiled with light stains and the spine is darkened with a few small stains. 82 pages & [5] leaves, with photographic illustrations, and brown & white illustrations and a folding plate in brown & white by the author. The preliminary pages and the bottom halves of the pages are very lightly dampstained. There are some small, light stains to the first 3 leaves. Good. Reprint of a 1936 edition.

Illustrated in black & white with 10 plates, including a frontispiece & a folding plate in the rear, and with textual illustrations, after photographs, drawings & paintings by the author & others. There is occasional light foxing. Very good. An account of a visit by George Sand and her children, accompanied by Chopin, to Mallorca in the winter of 1838-39. They stayed in the historic monastery, Cartuja de Valldemosa, confiscated from the monks in the revolution of 1836. Unfortunately for Sand's sickly son Maurice for whom she was seeking a warmer climate [and for Chopin himself], the winter was cold and stormy, marked by persistent rain, high winds and fog.Translated by James Webb.
