Color illustration by V. Floyd Campbell showing Teddy-G and Teddy-B (the G stood for gray and B for black), two bears from Colorado, leaving their mountain home. The page is taken from The Roosevelt Bears, Their Travels and Adventures, the popular children's 1906 book by Seymour Eaton (1859-1916). Born in Ontario, Eaton began his career as a public-school teacher. In 1905 he created the Roosevelt Bears, which originally appeared in a serial that ran in 20 newspapers over 29 weeks during the height of President Teddy Roosevelt's popularity. Initially Eaton feared his reputation would suffer as a serious writer and so used a pen name (Paul Piper) until the series became popular. The stories were collected and expanded into this and later books. The print includes with the publisher name and date at bottom edge. Approx. 8 1/2 x 11" with border. Good, with staining and small tear at border, but neither affects image.

Cloth-backed boards. Condición: Poor. Campbell, V. Floyd Ilustrador. First Canadian Edition. Green quarter-cloth binding over green grey paper-covered boards. Colour plate set to front cover. Moderate wear and rubbing to extremities. Text-block is loose from binding, with many loose pages and attendant edge-wear. There is significant loss to one colour illustration, but no loss to text. A few pages have closed tears. Rear endpaper is lost. A damaged (or well-used) example of the scarce Canadian issue of the first edition, with cancel title-page with the Toronto imprint. Interesting thus, and still readable, with all the entertaining colour prints and line illustrations. 180p. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.
