Die Zeichnung als Medium der Erfindung hat von Anfang an eine gewichtige Funktion im Oeuvre dieser Künstler, mit der Autonomie ihres reifen Werkes setzt ein reiches graphisches Schaffen ein, besonders in der Buchillustration. Das rechtfertigt, im Anschluß an unsere Picasso-Ausstellung auch Braque und Läger in der Graphischen Sammlung der Stuttgarter Staatsgalerie zu ehren. Das hohe Ansehen, das diese beiden so gegensätzlichen Künstler im Lande Baden-Württemberg genießen, erweist die beachtliche Präsenz ihrer Werke in öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen, aus ihnen konnte in dankenswerter Weise zu - etwa gleichen Teilen unsere Doppel-Ausstellung bestritten werden eine, wie mir scheint, ideale Symbiose.
