Librería: Les Livres des Limbes, Chisseaux, Francia
Soft cover. Condición: Good. Bill Enos Ilustrador. 48 BW plates and all the color photos on the three panel glossy wraps feature the rare and antiquarian books and manuscripts featured in the catalogue. Unpaginated but contains 1327 entries with detailed descriptions and fascinating critical appraisals printed in two newspaper columns with typically five entries per page. In fine condition overall with just three detractions: A stain on top page edges, rubbed on both ends of spine, and heavily creased on the foredge flap. If one has never experienced a Pirages catalogue as reading material in its own right I highly recommend it. In keeping with their mission statement (see about us on their website as of 2021) "historical artifacts that are physically attractive in some way-illuminated material, fine bindings, books printed on vellum, fore-edge paintings, beautiful typography and paper, impressive illustration" the fine photography alone is well worth the investment (and that by the way is how I dated this catalogue since it is mentioned that their photographer of the last 15 years, William M. Blum, had passed away). Many booksellers publish fine catalogues but few achieve the depth of this team, most items have scholarly commentary beyond physical description. Indispensable resource for literary criticism, history of printing and publishing, and historical significance of the books in question. Book.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. Hardcover in VG. Third Printing: 1970. Prior owner's inscription on paste down endpaper. Inked note on the acquisition of the book and date by possibly a second owner on free endpaper. Some ink checkmarks and a question mark outside of sentence text. Otherwise, a beautiful and solid copy. "Bill Huntington's salty account runs along on the runover heels of western experience. This is fact told by one of the last great artists - a story-teller of the corral dust school. This is the old west at work and play, told without sham or embellishment, rich in wit and understanding, packed with personality and a calm, naïve dignity. The "good men and salty cusses" built an empire. Not only did they build it, but they lived it - every minute of it. Bill Huntington was one of them. Climb down and meet the good men and the salty cusses. Rest for a spell in the company of the great, the near-great, and the least-of-all who saw the elephant, heard the owl hoot, and gave everything a business ride. They're all here: the punchers, the wranglers, the nesters, the rustlers, the swampers, the freighters, the herders, and the madame of the house at Lander. They live again in these pages: the trail bosses, the packers, the card sharps, the house men, the remittance men, the squawmen, and the roundup cook who drove six horses for Barnum. They make their way once more: the drifters, the gunmen, the bronc stompers, the agency braves, the operators - large and small. Step down and meet the boys. As down-to-earth Americana, rich in bunkhouse laughter, "There Were Good Men and Salty Cusses" is a literary find. This is one of the most cheerful happiest "publishing accidents" in Western letters.".
