First 4to, cloth. 66 pp of text, 140 illustrations (6 in color), chronology. Published in an edition of 600 copies. The Canadian-born Lawson came to the United States at the age of 15, in 1888. After study at the Art Students League and elsewhere he spent the better part of three years (1893-96) in France, where he studied and exhibited. After returning to the United States he held several teaching positions and exhibited with "The Eight" and at the 1913 Armory Show. Although he was the recipient of numerous awards over the next two decades, lasting recognition and financial security eluded him. He died in Miami in 1939. This monograph by the Berry-Hills, who were prominent New York dealers, is a major source of information on the artist. Freitag 5218; Karpel J671. 853170819 Very good in a soiled dj with minor edge wear.
