Blindstamped decoration to the panels. Leather title label. Red speckled page edges. Frontispiece is a large foldout map of the Battlefield at Waterloo. This copy has been signed by Sir John Sinclair, Bart. first on the title page and secondly with a hand written letter to Sir David Dundas. Dundas has also signed the title page. The letter has been tipped-in at the title page. Sir John Sinclair was a Scottish politician who visited Waterloo in 1815 and corresponded with Wellington. He interviewed survivors of the battle and persuaded Muffling, who was Blucher's chief of staff, of this work to published in English. Sir David Dundas was a British military officer with lengthy service. He was the author of a significant body of work on the training of British officers was the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF of the British Army while the Duke of York was in disgrace. A incredibly rare first edition, in English, of the account of the 1815 campaign and the Battles of Waterloo, Quatre-Bras and Ligny.
