De 23,5x14,5 cm. Com xlvi, 133, [ii] págs. Brochado. . 23.5x14.5 cm. xlvi, 133, [ii] pp. Paperback. Copy with paper faults and tears on the spine and covers, and with the front cover loose. A second volume has been published, consisting of a 52x63 cm atlas with 31 fold-out maps. Published with the authorisation of the Minister of Public Works, Councillor Bernardino Machado. The author was assisted in his research of historical maps by Gabriel Pereira, Director of the National Library of Lisbon and benefited from information provided by Engineer, Councillor Adolfo Ferreira de Loureiro, Director of the Works of the Port of Lisbon. It contains a table of contents, with explanatory comments, on the Roman numeral pages, with the bibliographical reference of the hydrographic charts, maps, plans and profiles collected from works and atlases from the 16th to the end of the 19th century; and concluding with a project (survey of the bar"s heights, location of the talweg, cross sections and construction plan) of the Port of Lisbon between Praça do Comércio and Alcântara presented to the Works Commission by the author. The following texts are transcribed: parts of the lecture given by engineer Mendes Guerreiro on 3 November 1888 at the Association of Portuguese Civil Engineers, a decree of 17 September 1891, a map of the amount of work carried out on the Port of Lisbon in 1887, proposals, memoirs, opinions and appraisals presented at the Commission"s sessions by the author and other members of the Commission. In this important report on the work on the Port of Lisbon during the 19th century, which gave it much of its current appearance, the author argues that changes had to be made to the layout of the outer wall to prevent profound and damaging changes to the river"s regime at the Lisbon bar.
