Uniform matching hard back binding in publisher's original slate blue pebble cloth covers, gilt title, author lettering and volume detail to the spines, all page edges gilt, red silk tie, patterned end leaves. Quarto 10½'' x 7''. 7 [of 8] volumes with volume VII missing. This is the edition De Luxe limited to 500 copies of which this set is not numbered. Each volume has a double page colour frontispiece of an H. A. Ogden scene from the civil war. They are all illustrated with both paper guarded black & white drawings, maps, glossy plates and occasional full colour plates.
