Original o primera edición
Hardback. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. Aubrey Beardsley Ilustrador. Allen, Grant. The Woman Who Did. Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1926. Later edition, reproducing elements of the original binding and title page designs by Beardsley. With new nine-page introduction by Ernest Boyd. Octavo, 223 pp. Original blue pictorial cloth, front panel stamped in dark blue and yellow, spine stamped in yellow, title page printed in blue and black. A fine sharp copy in nearly fine dust jacket. #1780. $25. The first edition appeared in John Lane's Keynote Series from the 1890s, which so well typified that decade of rebellion and scandal. The heroine of Allen's novel disdains the convention of marriage and insists on her privilege to enter into a connubial relationship without benefit of clergy. The book aroused tremendous controversy upon its publication. The author, a Canadian educated in the U.S. and Europe, worked as a lecturer in Logic and Philosophy and wrote both fiction and nonfiction on a rather dazzling array of subjects, including some notable weird fiction.
