First edition. Collection of speeches delivered before the Massachusetts Historical Society, boldly signed and inscribed on the front wrapper in brown ink by contributor Chamberlain to "Prof. J.K. Jameson / from / Mellen Chamberlain / Chelsea / Mass." Chamberlain (1821-1900) was a Boston jurist and historian.
