(1st book in the set from the New Testament). 920 pgs. including numerous tables, comments, charts, and lists.Light brown HC Book has gilt font on black and burgandy text blocks on spine, and is in VG Shape. Corners and spine ends lightly bumped, spine edges and cover edges rubbed, not worn through at all. Some light scuffing and shelf wear, no po names or marks inside or out. Page edges are red speckled. Gutter hinges are both strong with cloth tape added for support, book is splitting to binding from being forced to lay flat both front and back several pages in. Still retains structural strength. No missing pages, some dog eared and folded corners, and some corner tips missing. No stains, tears, or repairs, light scattered foxing throughout, tight, square clean, without any musty odors and no signs of moisture swelling or damage. No DJ as issued. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Clarke started with publishing the beginning of the Old Testament but then switched to the New Testament and finally back to the Old Testament. On a shelf, this set spans 15.75". Volume I: published by Hitt & Paul, indicates Third American Edition, 1820. Volumes II-IV (last three of old testament) indicate 1825 and are early editions. Volume IV may be a first edition. Volume IV may be a first American edition or even a first edition. These three volumes are all published by Paul. (Volume IV erroneously says Volume V on the title page.)Volume I of the New Testament is published in 1817 by Hitt & Paul and is a second American edition. Volume II of the New Testament is published in 1823 by Paul and is an early edition. CONDITION: Overall VG. Boards and corners are pleasing with only light wear. Vol III of OT has minor nickel sized chip in spine. Some minor moisture marks and foxing. Bindings are solid. This set is handsome, stately and usable.
