In Turkish. 128 p., one plate of Fatma Hanim who was the deceased wife of the poet to whom the poem is dedicated. First edition in Latin letters of this second book of poems of "Sâîr-i Âzâm" [i.e. The great poet], which is considered one of the greatest works of Turkish literature, and was published with appendices and a dictionary at the end, along with its transcription by doctor and politician Sadi Irmak (1904-1990). First published in 1885 in Arabic letters, Makber is a poem written by Abdülhak Hamit Tarhan on the loss of his wife, Fatima Hanim. It took its place as one of the most important examples of the newly established Ottoman / Turkish Poetry in Western style in those years, and has been a source of inspiration for many Turkish poets even decades after it was written. It is the first poem that brings the metaphysical fear of death to Turkish poetry. In 1878, his first brush with controversy occurred on the publishing of his play Nesteren in Paris. It depicted a rebellion against a tyrannical ruler, and the actual ruler of Turkey at that time, Sultan Abdul Hamid II was so upset by it that he had the playwright fired from his government job. He was appointed in 1881 to Poti, Georgia, in 1882 to Volos, Greece and in 1883 to Bombay, India. Due to illness of his wife, the family left India in 1885. On their way to Istanbul, his wife Fatma died in Beirut, then in the Ottoman Empire. She was buried there that inspired him to write his poem Makber (The Grave), which later became very popular.

He was one of the leading lights of the Turkish Romantic period. He is known in Turkish literature as "Sair-i Azam" (The Grand Poet) and "Dahi-i Azam" (The Grand Genius). In 1908, he became a member of the Turkish Senate, He lost his wife Nelly in 1911, and made later his third marriage with the Belgian Lucienne in 1912. It's the fourth marriage of him. Hamid, who was appointed as a member of the Assembly and became the president of the assembly after a while, went to Vienna with his wife at the end of the First World War. Here he had troublesome, hard, and moneyless days. Turkey, which led to a wide echo "Sâir-i Azâm" [i.e. The Great Poet] the poem was published in the newspaper Tanin. In 1920, he left his wife Lüsyen Hanim amicably. He continued to correspond with Mrs. Lüsyen, who married an Italian Count. This book includes all correspondences before and after divorce them. The first edition of one of 'Dukhter-i Hindu' [The Girl of India], a 'romantic and exotic drama' by Abdulhak Hamid, a foremost late Ottoman poet, playwright and statesman, immortalized in Turkish literature as 'Dahi-i Azam' [The Grand Genius]; the work is of profound historical importance for its daring poetry which transcended traditional rhyming schemes, embracing controversial social questions of contemporary life. This is the uncommon first edition of the revolutionary play Dukhter-i Hindu [The Girl of India], one of the earliest works of the legendary Ottoman dramatist, poet and diplomat Abdulhak Hamid. The play, composed of five acts, is a romantic-exotic drama feature a cast of Turkish, Indian and English characters. In the spirit of the liberal reforms of the Tanzimat ['Reorganization'] Era, the work touches upon previously taboo subjects such as the role of women, sexuality and interracial relationships, although executed in a clever, subtle manner. Critically, the work features poetry which radically departs from Turkish-Persian traditions, eschewing established rhyming structure and content in favour of freer from and contemporary subject matter. The play was favourably viewed, and carefully composed it narrow managed to pass the government censors. It is considered one of Abdulhak's most original and entertaining masterpieces.
