Condición: Fine, as new. First edition. Quarto (10-1/2" x 8"). (90)pp. Entirely illustrated with captioned color photographs of Arizona skies and landscapes. Outer wrappers and text pages are all printed on thin cardboard leaves. All edges gilt. Housed in publisher's original cellophane bag. Edition limited to 1000 copies. Signed and dated (2009) in silver ink by Philip Zimmermann on recto of back wrapper. As new. Abstract: "Four-color offset lithography printed book was created as a series of two page board book spreads that minimize the visual distraction of a 'gutter' on the panoramic view of each skyscape. The edges of the book are rounded and gilded in the fashion of religious breviaries or missals."--Artist's statement at Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website, viewed 11 July 2013. Note(s): "This is a book of border beatitudes. This work comments on the complicated attitudes of Americans on illegal immigration from Mexico. The cover shows a photograph of the area of Southern Arizona which is the most active in terms of migration across the Sonoran desert, and where thousands have lost their lives in the deadly desert heat. The interior pages show the progression of a typical high desert day from dawn to sunset with a single line of text on each two page spread."--Artist's statement at Vamp & Tramp Booksellers website, viewed 11 July 2013./ "The cover image is part of the Sonoran desert in Southern Arizona about 50 miles from Lukeville, and just a couple of miles from the Mexican border. It is one of the most heavily trafficked and dangerous entry points for illegal Mexican immigrants entering the United States, and many die there each year from exposure and lack of water. The skyscapes were all photographed in New Mexico and Arizona during 2003 and 2004"--Colophon./ Signed by the artist on back paste down./ Gilt stamped title and edges in gilt.

[92] pp.; 20 x 14.1 cm.; sewn bound; black-and-white & color; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed; Artist''s book by Philip Zimmermann featuring photographs and text on die-cut star shaped and rectangular pages. Published in conjunction with Montage ''93, International Festival of the Image. "My work is often about personal events or psychological states in my life. In the late eighties and early nineties I felt caught in a very stressful life of juggling a very demanding job (two actually), two small kids, a marriage, plus trying to find time to do creative personal art work, and a million other things. This seems to be a situation that so many artists are living, probably always have been and always will. I am not someone who responds well to stress necessarily, yet seem addicted to it and require it to get stuff done. I knew there were high costs and repercussions so I started to do research on stress on humans. I wanted to create a book that investigated stress and perhaps even looked into ways or relieving it, I hoped in a universal way that many people could relate to. The first dummies had a slightly different shape and had an exploding bomb on the cover this was eventually changed to my exploding head. The book goes through a clinical reciting of dozens of symptoms of stress on humans. The second part describes slightly tongue-in-cheek solutions to getting rid of stress in one''s life. I do think I hit a nerve with this book. I don''t know how many times that I have had people come up to me or email me and say that the book perfectly describes their life and that it really spoke to them. I had a psychologist order three copies and she told me that she kept one on a little table in her waiting room!" -- artist''s statement. Very Good. Bumping of cover and page corners, contents otherwise clean and unmarked.

Box. Condición: Fine condition. First limited Edition. Signed "Phzimmermann" on back cover of slipcase and hand-numbered 82/150. Square box (5 1/2 x 1"). 30pp. The book itself is 5.25 x 5.25"; printed by HP Indigo on Mohawk Superfine paper, housed in a hand made illustrated slipcase with publisher's corrugated-paper fold-out archival phase box, with cover of slipcase pasted to top, limitation noted on back cover. The woven spine construction of the book is based on a model developed by Claire van Vliet from a form originally created by Hedi Kyle. "Nature Abhors is about loss, the inevitable by-product and, (perhaps pessimistically) the final result of life and love. In the previous four years I had had a great deal of loss in my life with both my parents dying (one by a hit-and-run car), 9.11.2001 and all that meant for anyone living in New York, plus romantic complications in a relationship where the two of us did not need or want the same thing. This book is a rumination on what loss has meant for me personally and also what I have found has been a more universal feeling of loss since 9.11. Although the book contains visual references to the twin towers, it is determinedly not about that disaster but more about the collateral damage from that period of time on personal relationships, and ways of moving on from that loss. The photograph on page six was taken by Elizabeth Alderman, all the others and the text are mine. To be read through on one side, then on the reverse. Accordion-folded, each sheet affixed to the next with paper tabs illustrated with segments of spinal vertebrae. The book takes about half a day to assemble each copy." (Zimmermann).

Gr.-8°, Ln. m. SU. XXXIV, 1412 S. (Teilbd. 1); XX, S. 1413-2776 (Teilbd. 2). Neuwertiges Ex. ISBN: 9783161493768 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 4182.
