He served as Chief of the General Staff, Minister of Defence, and was a member of the Presidium of the Communist Party. During WWII, Zhukov oversaw some of the Red Army's most decisive victories. He served in the Red Army during the Russian Civil War. By 1939 Zhukov was given command of an army group and won a decisive battle over Japanese forces at Khalkhin Gol, for which he won the first of his four Hero of the Soviet Union awards. In February 1941, Zhukov was appointed as chief of the Red Army's General Staff. He organized the defense of Leningrad, Moscow, and Stalingrad. He participated in planning several major offensives, including the Battle of Kursk and Operation Bagration. In recognition of Zhukov's role in the war, he was chosen to accept the German Instrument of Surrender. In 1955, he was appointed as Defence Minister and made a member of the Presidium. In 1957 Zhukov lost favor again and was forced to retire. He never returned to a position of influence and died in 1974. Like all memoirs, the book is autobiographical. The centerpiece of the book is the second volume, with the depiction of the greater portion of the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people of 1941 - 1945. This volume includes information on the Battle of Moscow, the Nazi defeat at Stalingrad, the Battle of Kursk, the Liberation of Byelorussia and the Ukraine, fighting from the Vistula to the Oder, the siege and taking of Berlin, the Unconditional Surrender of Germany, and the Potsdam Conference. Intezarov, Arkady Ivanovich (artist) Ilustrador. Book measures: 21.5 x 15 cm. [13] pages: illustrations. Text in Russian. One of 500 copies. Signed by the artist on the first page. This artist monograph, personally inscribed and signed by Arkady Ivanovich Intezarov, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, offers a detailed look into the life and works of this acclaimed master of battle painting. A key figure at the studio of military artists named after M.B. Grekova, Intezarov is renowned for his contributions to the genre of military art, particularly his work on dioramas and panoramas. Intezarov's education at the Leningrad Art and Industrial College and the Moscow Printing Institute laid the foundation for his distinctive artistic style. His career took off in 1934 when he began participating in various exhibitions, showcasing his unique ability to capture the essence of military themes through his art. Among his notable achievements are the creation of the dioramas "Alpine Campaign of A.V. Suvorov" and "Combat Commonwealth of Soviet Wars and the Polish Army", which are significant works that combine historical accuracy with artistic mastery. These dioramas not only demonstrate his skill in large-scale works but also his deep understanding of military history and patriotic themes. This monograph serves as a testament to Intezarov's significant contributions to Soviet art, particularly in the realm of military and patriotic themes. It provides an intimate view of his artistic journey and the impact of his works on the genre of battle painting. Publisher's accordion-fold brochure.

44, [4] pp.: ill. 17,5x12,5 cm. In publisher's photomontage wrappers. Very good. First and only edition. One of 10100 copies. Rare. With 15 black and white photographs and recommendations for young artists by Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle. Wrapper design probably by Nesterov. Innokenty Nikolaevich Zhukov (1875-1948) was a famous self-taught sculptor, innovative teacher, writer, a prominent figure in the scout movement in Russia and one of the founders of the pioneer movement in the USSR. As a teacher and favorite of students, Zhukov became famous for his many innovations and active participation in the children's movement - first scouts, and then pioneers. The very word "pioneer" for the participants in the children's movement of the Soviet period was proposed by him. Zhukov took modeling and sketching lessons in fits and starts at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and then in Paris (at the Academy of Antoine Bourdelle), where he went in 1912 on a scholarship received from friends and admirers of his talent. World War I interrupted these lessons, but he continued to improve himself in his spare time from pedagogy and achieved significant success and fame in his country and Europe. This was especially promoted by his participation in so-called Autumn exhibitions in St. Petersburg and the mass production of art photo cards depicting his sculptural works. This brief guide includes information on preparing oneself for sculpting (materials, tools) and actual exercises with many illustrations for guidance. Not found in Worldcat.
