Ralph Cram explains in his introduction, "Spain is an exemplar of the saving of real things while the unreal pass by, and something of this quality is revealed through such pictures brought together here." Burgundy cloth over boards. Square tight binding. Clean interior. Gilt design on front cover. Small spotting on front and back cover. Modest foxing on edges of pages. No dust jacket. Soule divides the book into four sections: farm houses, city houses, public buildings, and details. Captioning each photograph, they are organized one, two and four to a page. "Born in New York in 1883, Winsor Soule led a life committed to personal and professional growth. After earning degrees from both Harvard and M.I.T., Soule knew he was destined for a career in architecture and secured a draftsman role with Boston firm Cram, Goodhue, and Ferguson. Specializing in religious and commercial sites, Cram, Goodhue, and Ferguson were crucial in shaping Soule's early career.
