Hardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket: Said to be issued without a dust jacket, but this copy contains the inside front and back panels of a dust jacket. Additionally, a three-inch wide paper strip promoting this limited signed edition is also included. (see seller's photos) Cover: ¼ green leather and green cloth boards with a gilt top edge. Front cover is embossed with an image of the Rake. Top and bottom of green leather spine is faded and shelf worn. Hinges are firm, and interior pages show minimal fading except for pages before and after the 12 illustrations. The top of the end papers front and rear and their facing page all have a 2" x ½" stain from the leather spine. The work was a collaboration between Rebecca West and David Low, the illustrator. The real attraction of the book is the series of 12 full-color double-page illustrations showing the Rake's faltering progress. These vignettes are a lively and telling commentary on life in England in the mid-1930s. They retain their vibrant color and certainly compensate for any shortcomings in the exterior of the book. (see seller's photos) This is number 88 of a limited edition of 250 signed by the Rebecca West and David Low. Note: Dame Cicily Isabel Fairfield took the pseudonym "Rebecca West" from the rebellious young heroine in Ibsen's Rosmersholm. Signed by Author(s).
