Hardcover. 487p., illustrated with professional photoportraits and some snapshot group photography, and provided with duplicate doublespread maps showing the author's travel-routes in red; hardbound first edition in thick maroon cloth boards gilt. Lacks the dust jacket, casing is slightly edgeworn but quite sound, entirely clean and unmarked throughout, this is a very good copy. Volunteer to Villa, a believer in Mexican independence, Thord-Gray left the Revolutionary ranks as WWI got under way to rejoin the British army.

The author was fresh out of service in the Boer War, the Zulu war and the Dum Tam War when in late1913, he insinuated himself into the RELUCTANT good graces of Poncho Villa. His intention was to fight ( as that was his career) on the side of the rebvels in the Revolutionary War in Mexico. He admired Pancho Villa (a.k.a. Doroteo Arango) as a fellow cavalryman. This book of 473 pages of text (LARGE print) is interspersed with a few b/w photos - MOSTLY of the personalities. Also a short biblio and index. Cond: Faux leather boards with gilt decoration and titling. D.J. is red and green and depicts 2 Yaqui (rebel) trackers. Former is BRIGHT, tight and crisp - may be UNread. Latter is rubbed and VERY lightly chipped but w/o sig. flaw. No names, marks, tears, creases, scratches nor folds. CLEAN !! Binding is sound. Quote (p.145) : " When Tekwe returned, the men were disarmed and their hands were bound. Ivor Thord-Gray (born Thord Ivar Hallström) (April 17, 1878 - August 18, 1964) was a Swedish-born adventurer, sailor, prison guard, soldier, government official, police officer, rubber plantation owner, ethnologist, linguist, investor, and author. He participated in thirteen wars spanning the continents of Africa, Asia, North America, and Europe. This book is book about his experiences in the Mexican Revolution. 9.5"x6.5", 487 pages.
