Memorial to Susanna Bryant Dakin (1905-1966), California historian, patron of the arts and philanthropist, a major friend of the Bancroft Library who supported major acquisitions, including the library of Martin Carrencedo and the Honeyman Collection of early Californian and Western pictorial material. Dakin wrote the introduction to Yo Semite 1878: adventures of N & C. Journal and drawings by Carrie E. LeConte (San Francisco: The Book Club of California, MCMXLIV [i.e. 1964]). Dakin was connected to the Bixbys, a prominent pioneer southern California family. See Hart, A Companion to California (1987), p. 49. Wrappers just a bit tanned, a very good copy. (#166892).

This 6.25 x 9.25 inch, 308 page hardcover book with dust wrapper is the apparent First Edition of this title by the Stanford University Press with no printing information given. This copy is in at least near fine condition with only the slightest touch of time wear showing to the bottom corners and edges. This book is probably in fine condition ? with the orange cloth covers spotless ? with vaquero design on front panel and tilting on the spine. The interior shows an endpaper drawing of Monterey in 1842 and the text pages are in strictly fine condition with no markings or damage to be seen. The dust wrapper is in at least very good condition with a few closed tears at the edges and folds ? and with the $5.00 price on the front flap. 308 pages.
