Manuscrito
Draft script for an unproduced film. Based on the 1839 short story "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe. Tim Burton and Jonathan Gems' re-imagining of Poe's classic Gothic tale of the downfall of an esteemed family in their isolated estate, re-imagined in modern day Los Angeles. The film became stalled in pre-production in 1994, at which point both Burton and Gems began work on Burton's outrageous 1996 science fiction comedy "Mars Attacks!." Burton's only attempt thus far at adapting Poe, with whom the filmmaker has had a lifetime obsession. Poe's short story has been adapted for film and television on several occasions, most notably by Roger Corman in 1960, starring Vincent Price, and most recently, in the 2023 Netflix series created by Mike Flanagan. Set in Burbank, California. Purple titled wrappers, with credits for screenwriters Jonathan Gems and Tim Burton. 110 leaves, with last page of text numbered 111. Xerographic duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound with two gold brads.

Illustrated throughout with drawings, photographs, programs, comic book covers and drawings, movie posters and promotional materials, memorabilia, behind the scenes photos, and more. Comic-Con began in 1970 in San Diego and continues as a very special place for artists, fans, writers, celebrities, and other professionals to gather in celebration of all things wonderful in the world of comics, science fiction and fantasy, film, videos, anime, and fun. From Ray BradburyÕs foreword: ÒWhen I was in my late forties, I was asked to come down to San Diego to attend the first Comic-Con at the El Cortez Hotel. I was part of a group of about three hundred people, if you can believe that. The fascinating thing about this was that these people all loved illustration. We were all very happy being there and enjoying one anotherÕs company.Ó Accompanying Bradbury (who is featured extensively throughout the book) at that first gathering were such luminaries as A.E. van Vogt, Jack Kirby, and Forrest J Ackerman.
