/Tony Sarg, illustrator. Ilustrador. CONDITION: Very Good Plus; no marks or tears, perfect interior corners, only a few tiny creases, some very thin cuts (less than 1/8"). Very Good envelope. Toploader large, softcover. Over 40 charming figures and groups (not counting cards) which have been expertly cut from a roll of Tony Sarg's Alice in Wonderland Wallpaper, and are waiting to be mounted and framed: little scenes and individual figures of Alice and the Mad Hatter, the Tweedles, the caterpillar and more. An amazing example of papercutting, as well as wild and happy artwork! These figures are the from the original Strahan role, quickly produced during the Depression with a short drying time and thus with bleed from the blue-green tinged blush on the cheeks. Acquired through a collector over 30 years ago (stamps "Gustav Heinemann (150)") from Sibylle Kaldewey Antiquariat in Munich. The intact wallpaper image shown here is from the Cooper Hewitt exhibit post by Gregory Herringshaw on June 26, 2016, but with some color differences, thus ours is a different print run. Youll see that Sarg's figures are much more scattered than my images. (The paper was more carefully silkscreened by Pippin papers in 1960).
