Hardcover. Small 4to. Original green cloth over bevelled boards with silver emblem and silver spine lettering. xvi, 313pp. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece, illustrations. Very good. Spine and much of binding sunned to a pleasant goldish brown; 1900 ownership signature on half-title page. A tight, handsome, internally near fine first edition of this large and large-margined history, with title page printed partly in red for a faux 17th century look. The discreetest ex-library copy, an inoffensive abrasion near the foot of the spine being virtually the only indication.
