Hardcover. Condición: Very good in dust jacket. First Edition, First Impression. Octavo, original textured black cloth titled and ruled in redon spine & front panel, front panel bordered in blind. Top page edges stained red. 360 pp. Some fading to red dye on top edges, a very good, bright copy, in the original pictorial dust jacket. The jacket has old chips and tears, some old tape repairs and is split along both the front spine fold and the front flap fold, it has a 1-inch deep chip missing from the bottom of the spine and a jagged chip affecting the title lettering at spine head, but it is at least 95% complete and - being a jacket from 1924 - could be considered rare. Richard Edward Enright (1871-1953) was an American law enforcement officer, detective, crime writer and served as NYPD Police Commissioner from 1918 until 1925; i.e, he was active during the early years of Prohibition. VULTURES OF THE DARK is his first book, a well-respected Crime Novel that was quite popular upon initial publication.

Libro Original o primera edición Ejemplar firmado
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, second printing (1925), signed and inscribed to a Sir John Henry, whose name also appears in gilt on the binding. While a little roughed up, the binding is exquisitely crafted with five spine hubs, marbled endpapers, numerous floral devices, borders and block edges all done in gold gilt, but the most attractive feature is the intricate dentelles to the inner board edges. An interesting choice of binding style for a crime novel, but beautiful nonetheless. Small octavo, 360 pages, previous owner bookplate. Inscribed by Author(s).
