Though his dates are uncertain, the rhetorician and historian Quintus Curtius Rufus most likely wrote his Life of Alexander the Great during the reign of Claudius in the middle of the first century C.E.Modeled on the classic style of Livy, perhaps verging toward parody, this emotional portrayal of Alexander is marked by vivid detail, bold speeches and "reflects the Peripatetic view of a tyrant favored by Fortune" (Oxford Classical Dictionary). Only eight of Curtius's 10 books have been passed down from antiquity, leaving gaps. As a historian, Curtius is not read for accuracy: The author himself cheerfully admits he omits nothing his authorities tell him, preferring to entertain the reader with a lively narrative over critical objectivism. .

Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Durier Ilustrador. 2nd Edition. 2 Voluimes. Full title in French is La Vie et Les Actions de la Alexandre le Grand. Alexander the Great Quintus Curtius Rufus Military Conquest. Quintus Curtius Rufus was a Roman historian, writing probably during the reign of the Emperor Claudius (41?54 AD) or Vespasian (69?79 AD). His only surviving work, Historiae Alexandri Magni, is a biography of Alexander the Great in Latin in ten books, of which the first two are lost, and the remaining eight are incomplete. Alexander III of Macedon (356 BC ? 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great was a King of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty, a famous ancient Greek royal house. Main author: Quinte-Curce; Claude Favre de Vaugelas; Johann Freinsheim Title: De la vie des actions d'alexandre le Grand Published: first at Lyon : Chez A. Molin, 1695. Language: Text in both Latin and French. This is the 2nd French edition and the first with these copper engravings for each chapter and for each frontispiece. A remarkably crisp tight fresh set with no foxing and some light browning to a few leaves. rare thus. A distinguished provenance with the bookplate ticket signed by the Count de Buri of Verona Italy ca. 1780, and preserved in his family from 1727 until 1975. Note, the Nazi high command used his castle as their head quarters during WW II and burned some of his furniture to heat the castle, while his entire was safe from the war kept in an underground vault. Hence crisp. By the Binder.

Couverture rigide. - Apud Ioanem Frellonium, Lugduni (Lyon) 1555, in-12 (8x12,5cm), (28) 325pp. [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION ON DEMAND] (28) 325pp. (23) (33).

Couverture rigide. [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION ON DEMAND] 855pp. (168).
