Hardcover. Condición: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. **Inscribed First Edition** Poor folio hardcover, 397 numbered pages, in NO dj. Brief inscription by the author and the date May 1939 on the title page. Scribbling at the top of the ffep. Remaining contents are free of marks and securely bound, but not free of damage. More particularly, the rear of the book was exposed to moisture. As a result, there is book mold and related discoloration / mottling to the last approx 50 pages and the lower board, with the worst occurring in the last few text and end pages. Further a few of the latter text pages have stuck together in the center and there is some damage to still others where the pages were pulled apart. Still a serviceable reading copy in that the damage to the first approx 345 pages is limited to slight wrinkling and the decorated upper board is lightly soiled but not affected like the lower board. Inscribed by Author.

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. First Edition. 4to. Pp. 397. Nearly every page is laden with well-reproduced b&w photos. Printed on light yellow-orange stock. Bound in tan cloth with title and design printed as a block-print on the front cover. Dust jacket complete and fresh. Inscribed on the title page: "To the Hon. Rufus C. Holman / from the Author / Feb. 1939" Inscribed to US Senator from Oregon, Rufus Holman. McCormick's book is as preposterous a self-tribute as can be imagined, yet redeeming for its vast collection of photographs documenting all corners of the globe. In that sense, McCormick's book is a vernacular one-volume John L. Stoddard, providing glimpses of Peking, the SS Leviathan, Port Moresby, St. Helena, the SS Mauretania, Kyoto, several photos of the Handley Page Airship, Tasmania, the Alaska Steamship Company's S.S. Alaska, etc.Not to be outdone, book-recipient Holman signed the book with his larger autograph on the FFEP, dated Feb. 28, 1939. In addition, above his signature Holman provided a gift inscription to his granddaughter, dated 1941. Uncommon in a dust jacket this bright. Dust jacket now protected in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
