Hardcover. Condición: Very good condition. The author was employed as ship's paymaster from 1845-47, and witnessing the miseries of the Great Famine in Ireland, counted himself very lucky to gain a place on the H.M.S. 'Fantome', which traveled to Australia and New Zealand from 1850-53. Malone wrote this work with future emigrants in mind, with two chapters devoted exclusively to the discovery of gold, gold diggings, the value of labor, contrast with American mines, and gold in Victoria. Includes sections on Western Australia, and a complete chapter on emigration, which includes advantages of Australasian Colonies over others; the passage out, who should and should not emigrate; land purchases; happiness in view for immigrants; and returns and commissioners' regulations. Small 8vo, (viii), 304pp. Modern green gilt buckram. Ferguson 12214; OCLC: 7800127.
