Rough cut pages with top textblock edge dyed gilt. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Visible wear marks to boards.

Jacket toned and surface soiled, particularly to spine, with tears and minor loss at spine tips and numerous creases especially to rear. A Very Good copy in Good jacket. Deservedly one of the best-loved of all books on the Border. The Second edition is widely considered the best edition, with additional material and corrections from the First. Rare in wrapper. Heavy, so an additional contribution towards overseas shipping costs may be requested.
