Original blue-grey wrappers. First Edition. One of 510 copies. Printed by Darantière in Dijon Somewhat darkened throughout, backstrip faded and chipped and worn at head and foot with some loss, wrappers somewhat soiled and slightly split at hinges, despite all of which this is a good and reasonably presentable copy.

Tight and clean in publisher's wove patterned red cloth with title lettering and vertical accent lines brightly in black to spine. Wraparound pictorial dust jacket is bright and clean at the front panel but with the delicate blue background sunned to tan at the spine. A few small, pin head sized rub throughs to the rear flap fold and a half-dime sized open hole mid spine. Publisher's $2.50 price intact on unclipped front flap. A fine copy in a VG or better jacket. Scarce 1st American edition of the young Lanham's 1st novel written based on his own experiences aboard and ashore while serving on a period sea tramp.
