Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. London. Phoenix House Ltd. 1951. First Edition. No printing remarks. Hard Cover. Demy 8vo, 8¾" x 5½" [22 x 14 cm] approx. 174 pp and appendices. Green boards with a little spine crushing to ends. Gilt titles and borders to spine. Slight lean to the upper board. Dust jacket is unclipped at 18s but shows some loss; a large chip to the front wrap and a tear at the spine heel with chipping at the spine ends. Corners are also knocked. Internally the text block is clean and unmarked with chapters on opening a bookshop, the personality of a bookseller and the choice of assistants. Interesting social history. Cloth, 8vo, 23 cm, xvi, 208 pp. From the blurb: "On the whole The Practice of Bookselling is what it says: a guide to the finances and operations of a bookshop and its ancillaries, but the author, being an idealist and a humanist, cannot resist relating his own occupation to a wider background and particularly to the future. This book contains, in addition to the text. A number of appendices providing the basic documents of the trade and a full index, and has an introduction by Hubert M. Wilson, a distinguished bookseller and lately President of the Booksellers Association of Great Britain and Ireland." Booklabel on front pastedown endpaper, bookseller's stamp on last text page, otherwise Good in a foxed and torn dustwrapper.
