Magazine. 32p., including covers, 5.5x8.5 inches, very good digest size magazine in stapled pictorial wraps. This issue features the first story by Hansen under his pen-name James Colton, "The Chosen" and a poem by "Man from CAMP" author Vic Banis. Cover image by Elleree refers to Daughters of Bilitis (DOB). One, Inc., which took its name from Thomas Carlyle's statement that "A mystic bond of brotherhood makes all men one," was founded in LA in 1952 as a homophile organization with connections to the Mattachine Society. As the first pro-gay journal of its kind, it serves as an important source for pre-Stonewall homophile studies. In 1954 the US Post Office declared it obscene, leading to a four-year legal battle (chronicled in its pages) that concluded with a favorable decision as part of Roth vs. United States. Aside from its articles covering topics ranging from the Beatniks and Gay marriage to homosexuality and national security, One Magazine also featured poetry and short fiction by numerous prominent authors.

Stapled Wraps. Condición: Near Fine. Neil Austin, Cindy (Smith), Joe Gross, Alan Hunter, Ralph Rayburn Phillips, Dave Hammond Ilustrador. First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. March, 1955 / issue number 8 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 38 pp. Near Fine; thin peripheral toning (see scans). This March / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. This issue features two sci-fi stories, The Ship and Son, a relative rarity for the article-oriented fanzine; and probably its finest collection of illustrations to this point in time - thanks to the efforts of art editor Cindy Smith. The art includes a Neil Austin cover, illustrating the story The Ship, and interior work by Austin, Cindy (Smith), Joe Gross, Alan Hunter, Ralph Rayburn Phillips, and Dave Hammond. Stories, articles and reviews (see scan of contents page) are by Joe Gibson, William L. Freeman, Bill Hamling, William F. Nolan, Charles E. Fritch, Joseph Slotkin, George Martindale, and Bob Tucker, as well as editor Ron Smith. A rarity, for the collector. l-pr1.

Stapled Wraps. Condición: Near Fine. Cindy (Smith), Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin, Terry Carr, Alan Hunter, Bill Price, Denness Morton, Paul Blaisdell Ilustrador. First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. January, 1955 / issue number 7 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 38 pp. Near Fine; thin peripheral toning (see scans). This January / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. This issue features an innovation: three authors each write the story "The Martian Who Hated People", illustrated on the cover by Cindy (Smith). Interior art includes contributions from Smith, Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin, Terry Carr, Alan Hunter, Bill Price, Denness Morton, and Paul Blaisdell. The three-time story is essayed here, separately, by Joseph Slotkin, Naaman Peterson and Edward Ludwig. Article contributions are by Ross Rocklynne, Jim Harmon and Paul Blaisdell. The editorial staff of Ron Smith and assistants Henry Moskowitz, Don Donnell and Charles Neutzel complete the opinion features. See scan of contents page. A rarity, for the collector. l-pr1.
