The fictionalized activities of the Tory outlaw Claudius Smith in the Hudson Highlands and the Hackensack Valley during the Revolutionary War. Smith was a pro-British outlaw whose gang operated in present-day Rockland and Orange Counties, New York, and Bergen County, New Jersey. He was captured and hanged in 1779. Wright III, 3001.
