First edition, 63, [1]pp., library stamp to tile and contents leaf, recent marbled wrappers, printed paper label on upper cover. "Erasmus Smith Schools were founded under a charter of 1669 by Charles II. Erasmus Smith, a London alderman, obtained property in Ireland under the Act of Settlement and endowed schools with part of the estates thus acquired. His original intention was to establish five grammar schools, but, in order to guarantee better salaries for the teachers and provide clothes for the existing pupils, decided to open only three, at Drogheda, Galway and Tipperary. Under the charter these had to be free schools for twenty poor children, (to be named by the founders or governors), dwelling within two miles of the school, as well as for all the tenants of Erasmus Smith. They were to be instructed in writing and 'casting accounts,' Latin, Greek and Hebrew, and if so desired, to be prepared for university." Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. Copac listing the Cambridge University Library copy only.
Publicado por Six items to Luckhurst on Board of Education letterheads; letter to Perry from Plas Dulas Llanddulas North Wales. The seven items dating from between and 1938, 1936
Librería: Richard M. Ford Ltd, London, Reino Unido
Manuscrito
The seven items in good condition, on lightly-aged and worn paper. With stamps of the Royal Society of Arts. The letter to Perry is a typed report of 2pp., folio, and more heavily worn than the rest of the correspondence. It is dated 11 August 1936, and discusses 'schemes similar to Sandersons [.] in which a firm offers work experience as part of a course taken by full-time students not previously employed in industry' and 'part-time release'. He discusses the only two cases of 'works experience': the first at Keighley with Messrs Stapley's, and the second between Messrs Courtaulds and the Central School of Arts and Crafts. There are also references to 'Sir Thomas Barlow who took two students of Salford School of Art into his works', Stourbridge, Pick, Vidgen-Jenks, Leicester, and Hull College. Luckhurst's three TLsS, two ALsS and ANS (totalling 4pp., 4to; 2pp., 12mo) continue the same theme in relation to the Society's business, with references to the Keighley Art School, 'the unrevised report of Miss Richardson's talk', the Industrial Art Bursaries Board, 'the Distribution of Diplomas by the Duke of Gloucester', and 'the sub-committee which is to administer the Travelling Bursary for a teacher of art generously provided by Mr. Sanderson'.

hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. Six reports printed/published over the years 1826-7. The third report focuses on the Foundling Hospital of Dublin, with examinations of relevant staff, recorded verbatim, along with similar interviews with 19 girls and 12 boys from the hospital, and various supplementary documents. The fourth focuses, similar, on the Belfast Academical Institution; the fifth is a brief report on the Diocesan Schools; the sixth deals in-depth (i.e. with transcripts, etc.) with the Hibernian Society for the Care of Soldiers Children and two connected institutions; the seventh the Royal Cork Institution. The ninth is a retrospective discussing difficulties connected with the reports and contains, additionally, supplementary Scripture lessons and Christian texts. The six reports have Ministry of Education stickers on their individual covers and ink stamps on their title pages; they are bound in one oversized green hardcover with gilt title and call no. on spine. Sunned at one edge, a little bumped/shelfworn, but still very good condition; interior pages a little warped, possibly from storage in a damp environment; some light foxing at beginning and end of the various reports. TPW. Used.
