Hardcover in brown dust toned boards and faded spine with embossed borders in good condition, no markings to text or end papers with inner hinges intact, small stain to rear board and small bump to lower edge of front board, color map of the "S.E. coast of the U.S. and its relation to the British West India Colonies" intact on page 92 and in good condition, 204 pages, a Civil War tribunal on the failure of Great Britain to act as a neutral party, the "Alabama Affair".

Condición: Good. Circa [1870s]. [1870s]. Good. - A 3 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide front cover of a Department of State envelope with the free frank of Hamilton Fish. Signed "H. Fish". Marked "Personal" and addressed to Vermont Senator George F. Edmunds. The red wax seal from the flap of the envelope has been excised & mounted on the cover at bottom left. The cover is somewhat darkened with the top right corner chipped. Several chips & tears have been repaired with document tape on the verso. Only the address side of the envelope is present. Good. Hamilton Fish [1808-1893] was an American statesman and politician. After serving as the 16th Governor of New York [1849-50] and U.S. Senator from New York [1851-57}, he was appointed U.S. Secretary of State, a position he held from March 1869 to March 1877. Fish is regarded as the "pillar" of the Grant Administration and is considered one of best U.S. Secretaries of State, known for his judiciousness and his promotion of reform and diplomatic moderation.
