First edition from the original manuscript. Number 557 of 650 copies. Introduction by Richard H. Dillon. 78pp. Illustrations throughout, one small sketch map, illustrated ends, large folding map laid in as issued. Original gilt pictorial dark green cloth lettered in gilt on spine. Minor spot to extreme fore-edge of 3 leaves. A fine and bright copy with the original plain white dust jacket (spine darkened). An important narrative of an overland trek to Oregon from Tennessee. Also important as a woman's narrative detailing her impressions and attitudes on the trail and in homesteading. Richard Dillon's introduction is outstanding. This copy is complete with the often-lacking large folding Map of the State of Oregon and Washington Territory, by the Bureau of Topographical Engineers, 1859.
