He studied at the Slade School of Art, and upon graduating began to work as a freelance journalist. Over the course of his life, his literary output was incredibly diverse and highly prolific, ranging from philosophy and ontology to art criticism and detective fiction. However, he is probably best-remembered for his Christian apologetics, most notably in Orthodoxy (1908) and The Everlasting Man (1925). as well as creation of the Father Brown Priest detective, made famous by Alec Guinness in a series of British films. Note this is an early Chesterton, profusely illustrated in a superb 3/4 purple crushed levant Morocco signed binding by Robert Riviere of London with purple boards, joints show a tad of weakness, bumped corners, light shelf wear, else very good, internally very fine, note, better than signed by Chesterton, this rare book includes an entire envelope in the hand of William Make Peace Thackeray. author of Vanity Fair.
