Manuscrito
2pp., 4to. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. In envelope, with postmark and stamp, addressed to 'John Bacon Esqr. | 48 Griffin Street | Witton | Blackburn.' Massey begins his letter: 'Dear Sir, | There is nothing of mine on Sale in England except the Tale of Eternity and I am too busy with the real Work of my life to attend to anything else.' (According to his entry in the Oxford DNB, Massey's 'faith in spiritualistic phenomena was lasting and monopolized most of his later years'.) He is sending Bacon 'a Pamphlet relating to the first two Vols which can be had of the Publishers (for the present) price 20/-. They would probably fetch twice the price in the Second-hand lists.' He concludes by stating that a copy of his 'Shakespeare (2nd. Ed. with Supplement) however, can be had privately, price one Guinea'.
