Bound in brown calf with title on red leather spine label, with volume numbers in gilt and gilt fillets on spine. Inner edges dentelle. Vol. I: [names of subscribers] xxxviii, 349 p.p.; Vol. II: [names of subscribers omitted from the first edition] ix, 383 p.p.; Vol. III:ix, 367 p.p. Third volume was published seperately following the success of the first two volumes [ESTC No: T115862]. Small chip to head of third volume, small tear along inner edge of front free endpaper and small hole to middle of front free endpaper in volume one. Light scuffs to boards, with light wear to corners and spine ends. Small crack to lower front joint of volume one. Light foxing, some sporadic stains and smudges to leaves. Early owner signature to front free endpaper in all volumes. Francklin Thomas [1721-1784] was an English chaplain, writer, as well as playwright. Volume one includes sermons on the History of Joseph, Human Nature, On Friendship; Volume two features sermons on Forgiveness, Retirement, and Angels; Volume three includes some sermons on Visiting the Sick, On Prayer, On the Sacrament, and other topics.
