A beautiful collection of topographic prints of Brighton, tracing its growth and character in the late 1800s, extensively illustrated and with colour plates. This volume brings together the parallel expansions of the English topographical print and of Brighton from a small fishing town to the fastest growing urban area in England. There are over 1,200 of these prints of Brighton alone and they reveal much of the life and character of Brighton's history and essence.There are nine colour plates and a gallery and catalogue to the rear of the book. The Gallery includes reproductions of all known views with any topographical context up to 1860 and are arranged according to subject.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. There are some marks to the boards and some fading to the spine. There is a mark to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound with bright clean pages. Some light spots to the reverse of the front free endpaper and last few pages. Very Good Indeed. book.

this copy being no 29 of 100 numbered copies hand bound in full morocco and signed by both authors. Full leather binding, 5 raised bands to spine, gilt lettering on coloured patches to compartments two and four, gilt decoration to other compartments. Inner dentelles gilt. Aeg. Contained in a marbled paper covered slipcase with a paper label. 12ins x 9.25ins, marbled endpapers, 383pp plus limitation page and 8pp colour plates (9 images). Very large number of black and white illustrations within the text. Also within the text are a double page map with accompanying key, a bibliography and a catalogue containing 1314 references (including a few not present in this volume). The gilt lettering "Images of Brighton" on the spine is a bit faded and the paper label on the slipcase is quite faded, otherwise this is a near Fine copy.
