"Beginning with the ancient period when Manu's code guided the deliberations of kings and kingdoms.the author has dealt exhaustively with the mood and tendency of rulers and the ruled, noting with care all the vicissitudes through which the country passed. Signalled by the 7th century invasion of Sindh by the Arabs the religion of Mohamedans got a foothold in India, and admittedly, a precursor of Mohamedan rule in India." Pp.xxiv/698, minor ink stain to lower page edges. Blue cloth, dustwrapper spotted with small edge chips but is in a removable clear protective wrap. G+/Good.

Cloth. Condición: Good. None Ilustrador. The scarce second edition of Mountstuart Elphinstone's fascinating and incredibly detailed 'The History of India', complete in two volumes, with one folding map. First published in 1841, this is the scarce second edition. 'The History of India' was researched from a range of Indian sources, giving the work a great reliability in its accuracy on the history of India. It is clear from the writing that Elphinstone had a lifelong love and understanding of Indian culture, and the science and philosophy of India. In this work, the author looks in-depth into Hinduism, contemporary changes in the government, changes in the law, the contemporary state of philosophy, astronomy and mathematical science, geography, medicine, language, literature, fine arts, commerce, manners and character, and much more.
